Richard Lewis, revered comic and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ star, dies at 76

Richard Lewis, the beloved comedian known for his stand-up and role in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” has passed away at 76, as confirmed by his publicist. Lewis suffered a heart attack at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday night. His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, expressed gratitude for the love and support, requesting privacy. Lewis, born in Brooklyn and raised in Englewood, gained recognition in the early ’70s alongside comedy legends like Richard Pryor.

 


He joined “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2000, portraying a fictionalized version of himself. The dark comic, recognized for his neurotic and self-loathing humor, made significant contributions to comedy through stand-up specials, TV shows, and memorable appearances. HBO, where Lewis had a longstanding connection, expressed heartbreak, emphasizing his unmatched comedic brilliance.

 


Lewis also played a pivotal role in the sitcom “Anything but Love” alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis paid tribute on Instagram, remembering Lewis as a deep, funny actor and expressing gratitude for his role in her sobriety journey.
